Father Ted star Joe Rooney has announced his engagement to 'soulmate' girlfriend Nerea.
The actor, best known for playing Father Damo in the '90s series, shared the exciting news with his followers on Instagram.
Rooney uploaded a photo of the couple smiling together against a green tree background, with new fiancée Nerea showing off her engagement ring.
"We are engaged!! I’m so happy to have met Nerea," read the caption. "She is kind, smart and beautiful and without doubt my soul mate. I’m looking forward to sharing my life with her. @nerea.inked #engagement #shesaidyes #forever."

The actor and comedian tagged his wife-to-be in the post, who shared the same image on her Instagram profile. Nerea dedicated the post to Rooney, writing how she "couldn't wish for a kinder, funnier, better human to both share my life and heart with".
Rooney replied on Nerea's post: "Gosh Nerea, I love you so much," with a red love heart emoji.
It's not known how long the two have been dating for. Rooney shared the first photo of him with Nerea on Instagram back in March 2022.

Many of Joe's followers shared their well wishes for the actor and his new fiancée in the comments section of the post.
Rooney now runs the podcast Podarooney, where each episode he "talks to friends and acquaintances that he’s met and worked with over twenty years in the entertainment industry".
He also has a string of live tour dates in Ireland, with three upcoming shows in June and a further two scheduled in November.
