Late fashion icon, André Talley, who once lived in Westchester, inspires Met Gala outfit

The late fashion icon, André Leon Talley, was honored Monday at the 2024 Met Gala.

The event, whose theme this year was “The Garden of Time,” brought many actors and celebrities into the city for a night of art, music and of course, fashion. In attendance was Afro-Latino actor Colman Domingo, who wore an outfit partially in tribute to Talley, the first Black creative director and a longtime fashion editor at Vogue. Talley was a longtime resident of White Plains.

Domingo’s outfit included black wide-leg pants, a white jacket with black accent and was accessorized with white calla lilies wrapped in black fabric. A highlight of the outfit — a floor-length white cape that flowed from his jacket — paid homage to Talley, as well as the late actor Chadwick Boseman (star of the Marvel film “Black Panther”), who both wore capes in previous years attending the Gala, according to a quote from Domingo in Deadline.

Talley called White Plains home starting in 1999, according to previous reporting by The Journal News. He enjoyed living in the area because of its "quietness, elegance and warmth," Talley said in 2018. His home, a “stately center-hall Colonial on Worthington Street” in Greenburgh, was listed for sale in the summer of 2023 for $1.5 million, according to previous reporting by Bill Cary for The Journal News.

Talley died in 2022 in White Plains. He was 73 years old.
