Farmington Hills police arrest man in fatal shooting of younger brother

A man is in custody after Farmington Hills police say he fatally shot his brother Saturday afternoon.

The 30-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, shot his 28-year-old brother during an argument and fled before officers arrived, police said. Officials worked with other law enforcement teams and arrested the suspect in Warren Sunday afternoon.

"The speed, safety and precision of this investigation is yet another example of the exceptional work, done every day by these officers and investigators," said Police Chief Jeff King.

Farmington Hills police said they responded to a 911 call from a mother reporting her two sons got into an argument, leading to the shooting Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred in a home in the 33000 block of Saratoga Circle near 11 Mile and Halsted Roads, with police arriving around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The mother found the victim with a single gunshot wound to the chest, police said. Farmington Hills police and fire crews transported the victim, then in critical condition, to Corewell Hospital Farmington Hills, where he later died, police said.

Police deployed officers, three K-9 teams and multiple police drones to search the area for the suspect without success on Saturday.

Investigators from the Farmington Hills police and the South Oakland Narcotics Information Consortium took the suspect into custody near 11 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway in Warren around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Farmington Hills police said this was an isolated case of targeted violence within the family and poses no threat to the broader public, per the investigation.

Warren police assisted in the arrest and federal, state and local law enforcement partners assisted in the case, Farmington Hills police said. Police did not identify the suspect and will release additional information upon the arraignment, Farmington Hills police said.

Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into this case.
