Fans Slam 'Saturday Night Live' Alum Kevin Brennan After He Mocked Matthew Perry's Death

Matthew Perry fans are livid after former Saturday Night Live writer Kevin Brennan seemingly mocked the late Friends star in a tweet following his death.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, Perry, 54, died of an apparent drowning in his Los Angeles home. The actor was found in his hot tub with no foul play suspected, TMZ reported.

Although no illicit drugs were located at the scene, prescription medications were recovered, the Los Angeles Times reported. Perry's death investigation is pending the results of a toxicology report.

The same evening of Perry's passing, Brennan linked to a news article on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA.”

The pushback against Brennan was swift. Social media users flocked to the comments section to condemn the Misery Loves Company podcast host for his insensitive remark.

One person expressed what was likely on plenty of folks' minds: "What the hell is your problem?"

Another X user commented, "Sir.. I'm fairly certain he most likely had a cardiac event which led to his drowning.. The fact that you'd make light of this and laugh at someone's death is sickening! 'comedian' or not and i say that lightly, you should be ashamed."

Meanwhile, someone else wrote, "It’s really sad when someone takes a tragedy and tries to gain popularity from it."

Yet another X user chimed in with, "These words are utterly ridiculous for you to drum up the nerve to say at such a sensitive time for his family. Shame on you! Shame on you!"

In a follow-up post, Brennan held his ground, tweeting, "I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die."

Brennan, who is the brother of stand-up comedian Neal Brennan, further fanned the flames in subsequent tweets—like this one thanking everyone for "all the emails and dms wishing me well," followed by a link to his website.
