During four seasons with the Chiefs, defensive end Frank Clark had 23 1/2 sacks in the regular season. That’s an average of just under six a season.

But in 12 playoff games during that span, Clark had 10 1/2 sacks, showing a knack for making big plays in big games. Clark helped the Chiefs win a pair of Super Bowl championships during his time in Kansas City.

But Clark’s final game with the Chiefs may have come in Super Bowl LVII, as the team is expected to release him in a salary-cap saving move.

Without mentioning the possibility of leaving the Chiefs, Clark seemed to acknowledge his impending departure Monday in a Twitter message.

“Thankful for the ups and the downs per usual,” Clark wrote.

It’s possible the Chiefs could sign Clark after he’s released, but fans sensed they may not see him in his No. 55 jersey this fall.

Many wrote messages of support and gratitude to Clark. Here is a sample of what was being said on Twitter and Reddit.

“Big game Frank,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “I doubt he’ll read this, however, wishing him nothing but the best. Helped build the foundation of this championship era.”

Another shared this: “’I smell blood in the water.’ Damn this one hurts. Really hoping he ends up back somehow. Adds so much in the postseason on the field and is good for at least two classic postgame interviews a year. He caught a lot of hate but Frank Clark is a Chiefs legend.”

A Chiefs fan on Reddit wrote: “I’ll be forever grateful to the Shark.”

Another shared this: “Thanks for helping get us 2 rings, Frank. I admit I talked some trash about your play during the last few regular seasons, but I am glad you shut me up during the playoffs.”

On Reddit, a fan shared this: “Love Frank. He’s been a part of some great things for this franchise. Two rings and postseason glory. Chief for life.”

Another wrote: “Without question, helped us A LOT to win our last two super bowls. Forever grateful for that.”
