Fans Anxiously Await News of a 'Minx' Season 3

The fate of Minx, the raunchy dramedy detailing the rise of a woman-focused sex magazine, has often reflected the precariousness of its own subject matter: Just as the 1970s-set series outlines a publication’s triumphs in spite of financial and cultural turmoil, the project itself has faced a number of obstacles along the way.

In the middle of the spunky show’s second season, Max announced it would be pulling the plug on its original series following a long line of brutal cost-cutting measures. “We’ve been removed from HBOMax but we’re still finishing the season,” star Jake Johnson wrote on Instagram in December 2022. “So thankfully they didn’t halt production. We’re about a week away from being finished shooting.”

He continued, “From what I am hearing S1 & S2 (and hopefully S3) will find a new home, the question is where.” A month later, Starz provided the answer, hosting Season 1 and the currently airing Season 2 on its linear, digital and streaming platforms.

In fact, executive producer Paul Feig, who weathered a much-too-early cancellation with cult hit Freaks and Geeks, told The Hollywood Reporter in July that Minx “was always a phoenix. We could not sell this show at all for the first season. We took it everywhere.”

Set in ‘70s Los Angeles, at the hub of countercultural shifts, Minx follows the young and eager feminist Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), who unexpectedly joins forces with the sleazy yet lovable publisher Doug (Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. In Season 2, Doug and Joyce grapple with the magazine’s profound success, which brings “more money, fame and temptation than either of them know how to handle,” according to its logline.

Here's what we know about a potential Season 3.

Will there be a Minx Season 3?

Starz has not yet announced plans for a third season. The show, while critically acclaimed and enjoyed by audiences, faces the uphill battle of scoring a renewal amid a bitter Hollywood strike, in which the studios seem unwilling to budge to meet writers’ and actors’ demands.

What is the release date for Minx Season 3?

Should Minx be renewed for a Season 3, audiences should expect more than the typical year-long wait for a new installment due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Since Season 2 premiered in late July of this year, a third installment would not air any earlier than late summer 2024.

Who is cast in Minx Season 3?

Assuming Starz moves forward with a Season 3, the installment is likely to see the return of its Season 2 cast, including:

Ophelia Lovibond as Joyce Prigger

Is Minx on Max?

No. As a result of Max’s cancellation of the series, Minx is no longer available on the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer.

How to watch Minx

Minx is now available on all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms, as well as the Starz app. Season 1 is ready to stream in its entirety, with new episodes from Season 2 dropping weekly in its linear time slot at 9 p.m. ET in the U.S. and Canada on Fridays. New episodes from the second installment are available on streaming, on-demand and the Starz app at midnight on the linear premiere date.

Is there a trailer for Minx Season 3?

No. Given the lack of a renewal for Season 3, there is not yet a trailer. You can view the Season 2 trailer for Minx above.

What will happen in Minx Season 3?

Minx Season 2 picks up a year after the events of Season 1, with Joyce and Doug still on the outs and the magazine having severed its ties from Bottom Dollar. However, as the season progresses, the two rekindle to the immense benefit of their mutual empires: Bottom Dollar is paid a visit from none other than Rolling Stone, which aims to document the publisher’s place in the sexual revolution. Meanwhile, Minx rakes in a plethora of subscriptions, aiding the launch of male dance revue Club Minx and its international rights sales.

If Season 3 is greenlit, the show will likely continue to explore the ever-changing relationship dynamics of its characters: Joyce’s ambitions, Tina and Doug’s romance, Constance’s antagonism, and Shelly and Bambi’s future.

How many episodes are in Minx?

Minx Season 1 consists of 10 episodes, while Season 2 contains eight.

When is the Minx Season 2 finale?

The Season 2 finale of Minx is set to premiere Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on Starz, with streaming and on-demand viewing available at midnight. Written by Chris Garcia and Emma Gase, and directed by creator, showrunner and executive producer Ellen Rapoport, the episode’s logline is as follows: “At the Minx International launch party, Doug confronts Constance, while Joyce starts to lose control of her magazine. Shelly and Lenny look towards an uncertain future.”
