The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics officially kicked off this weekend, and though it's typically athletes and their families that we see getting emotional throughout the highs and lows of competition, they certainly aren't the only ones. Canadian singer Celine Dion, who closed out the opening ceremony for the Olympics with her rendition of "L'Hymne à l'amour” by the French singer Édith Piaf in front of the Eiffel Tower3, appeared to get choked up by a fan interaction she had after her performance.
In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, Celine, who is moving down a line greeting fans after the ceremony is over, gets visibly choked up when she reaches one person who extends a single rose to her, saying "Merci, Celine" as she accepts it.
The fan, who shared the video under the handle @DusseldorfWig, captioned the moment: "Soooo I got to give Celine my rose after her Hymne à l’amour performance tonight." Naturally, after more of Celine's fans saw the sweet moment between the two, they couldn't stop gushing over it. You can watch the whole interaction here.
"The fact that she takes her time to honestly acknowledge the person giving her a flower and look into their eyes with gratitude is just so sweet from a big star like her," someone responded under the post. "I hope she’s feeling okay! She looks wonderful," another wrote. "She looked truly touched, as well. Thank you for sharing ❤️," a different person commented. One fan wrote, "Love Celine, and she looks so genuinely grateful for the love and support of her fans."
This was only a small glimpse of the outpouring of love the singer, who is known for hits like "My Heart Will Always Go On" and "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," received this weekend. As many know, Celine hadn't publicly performed in over four years since she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder Stiff Person Syndrome. According to Billboard, her global Spotify streaming numbers have jumped 36%, with a 64% jump in France specifically.
Many fans are left wondering what's next for Celine, and although there has been no official confirmation on her next projects, there have been rumors of a potential Las Vegas show on the horizon.
That said, one thing is clear — her fans just want her to stay healthy and happy.
