From famous sausage to hot sauce, these big-name food brands are sourced and sold in NJ

Editor's note: There are countless goods produced and sold locally, and this list is not meant to be exhaustive.

When it comes to food, the Garden State has got it all. Whether you're looking to buy fresh meat from places like Hinck's Turkey Farm in Manasquan, or produce from farms like Krowicki's in New Egypt, there's no shortage of freshly produced ingredients.

There are even local meal delivery services, like Eatontown's Eat Clean Bro, also sold in Livoti's Old Work Market locations. But there are tons of local big-name distributors, too, making everything from hot dogs to pasta, frozen pizza to Italian bread.

While several giants have fallen recently, like East Hanover's Nabisco (where this North Jersey girl used to smell Chips Ahoy! wafting through the air), there are several that might surprise you.

Check out these Jersey-based brands:

This category almost doesn't seem fair, as there are so many bakeries across the state making varieties from French baguettes to Italian Panella.

But the most widely accessible has to hail from Calandra's Italian empire. Fresh bread is made both at the bakery in Newark, as well as in Caldwell. You can find it on most ShopRite bakery shelves.

Candy

Among the many local chocolatiers and candy makers across the state is Lucille's Candies (aka OH FUDGE) in Beach Haven and Manahawkin.

If you grew up in the northern part of the state, you may have seen colorful, iconic candy figures standing on the M&M Mars Factory lawn in Hackettstown. We probably don't have to tell you where to find M&M's in stores.

Frozen pizza

You may be asking why you'd want frozen pizza in one of the major pizza capitals of the world. But if we're going to offer frozen pizza, it has to be one of the most famous brands.

Ellio's Pizza, found in ShopRites and most other big-name grocers, has a distributor in Lodi.

Fruit spreads and jellies

There are many local brands, such as Pine Barrens Native Fruits in Browns Mills, which makes fresh jams, jellies, honey and more.

But there are some that are more recognizable.

Famous Polaner Spreads are made by B&G Foods, which has factories in Roseland and Parsippany-Troy Hills. The massive distributor also makes other grocery store staples, like Don Pepino spaghetti sauce.

Hot dogs, pork roll and other meats

Pork roll, egg and cheese sandwiches are a New Jersey staple, and this one is from The White Oak Market in Seaside Park, established in 1913.

Thumann's Inc., which produces hot dogs, bacon and other processed meats, has a factory in Carlstadt. Best Provision Co. Inc. in Newark has also been producing hot dogs, corned beef, roast beef and more since 1938.

If burgers are more your speed, you may have tried Pat LaFrieda's Signature Burgers, which are produced in North Bergen, and sold in most ShopRite locations.

How about sausage? Another popular ShopRite-sold brand, Premio Foods Inc., makes its famous sausages in Hawthorne.

And the true King of the Garden State? Pork roll, aka Taylor Ham, which has been made by The Taylor Provisions Company in Trenton since the 1800s.

Despite all these commercial availabilities, don't sleep on locally sourced meat from farms like Sickler's Circle View Farm in Monroeville.

Pasta

With no shortage of Italian markets across the state, you can always find fresh pasta. But one particular retailer, known for selling frozen varieties of pasta, raviolis and more in ShopRites and other retailers are Andrea Foods, located in Orange.

You can also buy pasta from Severino Pasta Company, either at the retail store in Haddon Township, or Whole Foods market locations.

Sauce and other jarred goods

A leading brand for canned clams, scungilli (sliced conch), red and white clam sauce, and seafood-based soups and chowders is LaMonica Fine Foods — and the company has a factory in Millville.

A former Ramapo College student, Kevin Carbone created Sauce Bae hot sauce with health in mind, including anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric, as well as limiting sodium and eliminating preservatives (thanks to vinegar and pineapple juice making it naturally shelf stable). Find the products, which were made famous via the hit YouTube series "Hot Ones," at over 350 ShopRites nationwide.

Toms River resident Nick Lepore makes his Burger Buff sauce in the Garden State, too. The brand has a cult-following, and the sauce is sweet, tangy and creamy — with a bit of heat. Find it at Lenny's Colonial Ranch Meat Market in Point Pleasant Borough.
