The family of slain Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen is expected to meet with President Trump Thursday, to discuss a sex-misconduct bill named after her.
The #IAmVanessaGuillen bill aims to facilitate members of the military to report sexual harassment and assault, with the creation of an independent venue to do so.
“Our soldiers need an outlet that is independent, neutral, unbiased and give them resolution that is not conflicted with the military because there is no relationship,” the family’s attorney, Natalie Khawam, told Texas television station KWTX-TV earlier this month.
Guillen went missing on April 22. Nearly two months later, on June 30, law enforcement officials found her remains buried near a lake, some 20 miles away from the Texas military base. She was 20.
According to investigators, Guillen was alleged bludgeoned to death by a fellow soldier, 20-year-old Aaron Robinson, with the help of his girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar, 22.
Robinson took his own life on July 1. Aguilar has been charged with assisting with discarding the body.
Thursday’s event in Washington, D.C., will begin with a press conference at the National Mall at 8:30 a.m.
