Fall River woman wins 'Jaws'-themed vacation from Mass. Lottery, with chance to win $1M

A Fall River woman has won an all-expenses-paid trip to shark-infested waters.

The Massachusetts State Lottery named Jean Keough of Fall River one of the first six winners of a trip to Martha’s Vineyard, inspired by the classic blockbuster film “Jaws.” While there, she’ll have a chance at winning $1 million.

In the summer of 2025, Keough and a guest will enjoy a three-night stay at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, with meals, a “Jaws”-themed tour of the island, $1,000 spending cash and more.

She and five other winners were randomly selected in a second-chance drawing from those who held non-winning “Jaws” scratch tickets from the Mass. State Lottery.

The 'Jaws' connection to Martha's Vineyard

The 1975 thriller “Jaws,” directed by Steven Spielberg, was filmed on Martha’s Vineyard, standing in for the fictional Amity Island being terrorized by a great white shark. The film won three Academy Awards, was the highest-grossing film at the time, and is widely credited with inventing the concept of the “summer blockbuster” film.

What else do 'Jaws' prize-winners get?

Besides the hotel stay, the trip package also includes ferry transport to and from the island, black car service to and from the port, transportation island-wide, a “Jaws”-branded welcome gift, a private screening of the film, and a “Shark Infested Waters”-themed party on the Harbor View Lawn.

Thirty people will eventually be chosen as Martha’s Vineyard trip winners. While on the island, all 30 trip winners will participate in a "Jaws”-themed game show in which one contestant is guaranteed to win a $1 million prize.

All other contestants will win a guaranteed prize ranging from $500 to $10,000.

Can you still play the 'Jaws' scratch ticket game?

"Jaws” scratch tickets are available at Mass Lottery retailers statewide. The tickets are $10.

“From speaking with the trip winners and hearing how excited they are, it is clear just how unique and special this prize is,” stated Lottery Executive Director Mark William Bracken. “While we felt confident that this ticket would be popular because of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity it offers, the customer response has exceeded our high expectations.”
