Fall risk, hearing, vision, medication, depression among screenings offered at clinic

The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes, Wayne & Ashland is sponsoring a Healthy Aging Clinic 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Sunshine Villas Community Room, 149 E. Jones St., Millersburg. The clinic is for people ages 60 and older.

Fee fall risk screenings, hearing screenings, vision screenings, mediation reviews and depression screenings will be offered. Each screening will be no more than 30 minutes.

Preregistration is required and can be made by contacting Karry MacQueen at the Holmes County General Health District at 330-674-5035, Ext. 251. No walk-in appointments are available.

The fall risk screenings will be provided by Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers. The individual will be screened for three risk assessments. An educational meeting will be held with MacQueen, health educator/injury prevention coordinator, afterward to discuss falls prevention and make a referral to the Falls Prevention Program.

Modern Hearing Solutions will conduct the hearing screenings. Education on the results will be reviewed with the individual with potential referrals.

Kristin Yabroff, RN and MRC volunteer, will provide vision screening. No diagnosis will occur. State vision provider information will be made available.

Joel Gause, pharmacist and owner of Premier Pharmacy, will provide medication reviews. Individuals who have registered must provide a list of medications being taken, including over the counter and supplements, as well as results from current blood work. The information needs to be shared with MacQueen by June 6 for an appropriate medication review discussion.

Kris Kurtz, public health nurse, will provide depression screenings.
