New faces joining WKYT, The CW Lexington at anchor, weather desks

New faces will be coming to WKYT’s morning news shows on the CBS affiliate as well as on The CW Lexington.

News director Robert Thomas said that WKYT expanded its news broadcasts on The CW with 7 and 9 a.m. weekday newscasts to compete with the expanded FOX 56 WDKY news shows, which WKYT produced until the end of 2021.

“This expansion meant we are on the air for six and a half hours each morning from 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.,” Thomas said. “To further invest in those newscasts, we have two anchor/reporters joining our team in March. Mariah Congedo and Destiny Quinn will co-anchor the 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. newscasts while also contributing to our coverage throughout the day.”

Mariah Congedo will join the morning team on March 4, anchoring the 7 and 8 a.m. newscasts on The CW Lexington in addition to reporting, Thomas said. Congedo has worked at Gray’s WTOC in Savannah since 2019. She’s a graduate of West Virginia University and also worked at Gray’s WDTV in Bridgeport, W.Va.

Destiny Quinn will join The CW Lexington’s morning news desk as a co-anchor with Mariah Congedo and Victor Puente.

Destiny Quinn, a native of Jonesboro, Ark., who has been anchoring the news in Tuscon, is joining the CW Lexington on March 22, where she will co-anchor with Congedo at 7 and 8 a.m. and with Victor Puente at 10 a.m.

“This will allow Kristen Kennedy more time in her schedule to work on special projects and investigative content that’s important to her and our overall news strategy,” Thomas said.

New meteorologist joining WKYT weather team

WKYT also will welcome a new meteorologist. Alexa Minton will be joining the First Alert Weather team in full time in May, replacing Ally Blake who is now at WMAR in Baltimore.
