Explosion at Maryland nail salon injures 7, including cops and EMS workers

Officials in Maryland said 7 people were injured after an explosion at a nail salon.

The incident occurred at Libra Nails & Spa in suburban Woodlawn around 9:15 p.m. Monday night, according to Baltimore County police.

After receiving a call regarding a disturbance, officers found a man who wouldn’t leave the salon. After a standoff, the man ran into the back of the salon and started a fire which soon caused the explosion.

Fire officials said the fire was extinguished quickly but neighboring businesses were damaged by the blast.

A photo posted by the Baltimore County Fire Department showed broken windows on the storefront and debris in the parking lot and inside the salon.

The man—believed to be a former employee of the salon—was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Four police officers and two EMS workers were also hospitalized, but the injuries were not considered serious.

No charges have been filed yet as the man remains hospitalized.
