Exhausted hiker rescued from La Quinta Cove Trail Sunday

A Riverside County sheriff's helicopter was used Sunday to rescue an exhausted hiker from the La Quinta Cove Hiking Trail.

The rescue began about 10:30 a.m., when deputies arrived at the trail to locate the hiker, who could not walk farther, according to Riverside Sheriff's Sgt. Nicolas Lingle.

The helicopter was summoned and hoisted the person off of the trail to a landing zone, Lingle said. A team of paramedics evaluated the hiker and the person was evaluated and released.

There were no further details about the hiker.

"The Riverside County Sheriff's Department reminds hikers to hike early, have a plan, hydrate and bring plenty of water,'' he said.
