Exclusive: Obsession's Indira Varma breaks down brutal grief scene

Obsession star Indira Varma has broken down a powerful grief scene from the Netflix thriller.
The series tells the story of an obsessive affair between Happy Valley star Charlie Murphy's Anna and her fiancé's dad William, played by The Hobbit star Richard Armitage.
Game of Thrones actress Indira Varma stars as William's betrayed wife Ingrid alongside Ms Marvel star Rish Shah, who portrays her son Jay in the series, whose entire world is turned upside down upon the discovery of the secret romance.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the scene where a heartbroken Ingrid confronts her husband William following the death of her son, Varma said that she empathised with Ingrid because she has children of her own.
"You put yourself in that character's shoes," Varma said. "I have a child and I just feel for Ingrid and I just channel what I feel and put it through her lens, I suppose."
While Varma put herself in Ingrid's shoes to get into character, Shah said that he used music to channel his emotions upon discovering the affair.

"It was a lot of music. Music really helped me with this job for some reason. Charlie and I had shared some songs," he explained. "I was really allowed time to sit into that moment of discovery. I felt as though there was no rush to get to that emotion or that moment, and I just really appreciated that.
Ahead of filming, the actors were given a week to get to know each other at rehearsal, which, Varma said, helped to build trust between the actors.
"What was brilliant was we did have a week's rehearsal, where we were able to build up trust and the relationships and talk about how the family functioned. That was really helpful, actually."
Obsession is available to stream on Netflix, while all three series of Happy Valley are available on BBC iPlayer.
