Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One spoilers follow.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One star Pom Klementieff has confirmed that the new sequel achieves a first for the movie series.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star makes her debut in the long-running franchise in the upcoming seventh film, playing the role of assassin Paris.

As part of the action, she faces off against Ethan Hunt – which just so happens to be the first time Tom Cruise's character has fought with a woman.

"It's the first time that Tom gets to also have a fight scene with a woman in the franchise, so it was a big deal as well," Klementieff told Digital Spy.

While chatting with us, the actress also opened up about devising the character of Paris, and how she wanted to create a sense of "insanity" to how she looked.

"I wanted to bring an insanity to the character, even in the idea of the make-up that I wear in Venice with the white and the black tear drop," Klementieff explained.

"I wanted to be something eerie and strange and kind of like a monster, but that looked like a porcelain doll or a pantomime at first. It was inspired by this character Pierrot from the Commedia Dell'Arte. I wanted to bring something that was a bit melancholic but also a little wild that's unleashed when I do the car chase.

"It's all about modulations, it's like music where sometimes it's going to go loud and then it's going to go to a little flute. It was really fun to get to do that."

Ahead of Dead Reckoning Part One's release, the movie has received hugely positive reviews, currently sitting on 98% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is released in UK cinemas on July 10 and in US cinemas on July 12.
