Exclusive: Flamin' Hot's Jesse Garcia addresses "responsibility" of telling Cheetos story

Flamin' Hot star Jesse Garcia has opened up about the "responsibility" of telling the movie's central story.

The upcoming film, which is directed by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, focuses on the real-life tale of Richard Montañez, who claimed to have created to Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the project, the actor explained that he "understood that this movie was bigger than all of us" when he signed on.

"But I also had a responsibility just to tell his story," Garcia said. "I don't have that responsibility to carry on the weight of all of these things as Jesse Garcia or as Richard, you know?"

"My responsibility is telling Richard’s story and being honest to what I'm doing during the shooting days," the actor continued. "Now we're talking about it. Now we're talking about how this is a bigger story, a bigger movement than what the movie is."

Garcia also noted how the story "transcends cultural lines", elaborating: "This is a relatable story for everyone. Everyone's been the underdog, everyone's needed faith at some point. I think I'm able to compartmentalise that. Otherwise, I’m going to implode."

Elsewhere, Garcia also spoke to DS about the appeal of the movie's central snacks, saying: "I think sometimes it's, like, the heat is existing.

"It's not going to overwhelm you if you keep eating. You know, as soon as you stop eating something hot, there's like hot hot, but if you keep eating it, it's not as hot."

Flamin' Hot is released on Disney+ in the UK and on Hulu in the US on June 9.
