Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Emma Atkins has spoken for the first time about her character Charity Dingle's involvement in this year's Super Soap Week storyline.

The actress's popular character has been tipped for a major role in the spectacular week of episodes, which once again air in October.

Emma shared some early gossip at an exclusive photoshoot for Inside Soap magazine to celebrate Emmerdale's nominations at this year's Inside Soap Awards. The long-serving cast member has been nominated for the Best Actress prize at the ceremony – and she's also part of the Dingles, who are up for Best Family.

Digital Spy was granted exclusive video access to the photoshoot and chatted to each of the cast involved.

Speaking about Super Soap Week, Emma told Digital Spy: "I'm very excited! Some Super Soap Weeks I don't manage to be part of, which is just the way it goes. So to be at the centre and for it to be quite a big storm brewing – not literally a storm, we've done that!

"I just know that it's going to be spectacular in one way or another and we're due to get the scripts shortly, but it's going to be quite big."

Charity has already had an emotional year in the show, as her world was turned upside-down when she discovered that her husband Mackenzie Boyd had secretly fathered a child with Chloe Harris.

After Charity ended her relationship with Mackenzie and refused to forgive him, he decided to make a go of things with Chloe instead.

Super Soap Week will see all three characters take centre stage as they find themselves in a dramatic situation.

Emma continued: "At the moment [Charity is] in a very angry state of mind. I think there's definitely vengeance on the cards, in terms of: how can she actually allow this guy to have done what he's done?

"So she's toying with that and all of her family and friends are saying: 'Just leave it, walk away, forget it, move on'. She's like: 'No!'

"I think the future will very much be about her confronting those issues, because it's left her quite broken. At the moment she's too broken to deal with anything, but she's just letting people know it's in her arsenal, it's there, it's not going away, it's not dying down. She was hoping very much for it to do that and it's not, it's got worse."

Emma also reflected on Emmerdale's nominations at this year's Inside Soap Awards, which will take place at a venue in London in September.

She said: "It's just been a particularly strong year and personally, being involved in the story I've been involved in, the feedback has been absolutely incredible.

"I feel very proud to be part of that, so of course I'd love everyone to vote Team Emmerdale!"
