Everything Marvel has in the works, from a new 'Captain America' to two 'Avengers' movies

The folks at Marvel are best known for producing box office-shaking superhero blockbusters. They're also uncannily good at planning.

Since “Iron Man” premiered in 2008, the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded beyond all expectations and continues to grow. After the mega “Infinity Saga” that made up the first three phases of the MCU, the superhero world is now in Phase 5 – part of the “Multiverse Saga” – with the recent release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," and is mostly planned out through Phase 6, which includes two new “Avengers” movies.

So what’s coming and when? Here’s everything we know that's in the Marvel pipeline:

‘Secret Invasion’ pits Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury against sneaky aliens

In this six-episode Disney+ limited series (streaming June 21), Jackson’s superspy returns from a sojourn in space to tackle a race of shapeshifting aliens who’ve infiltrated positions of power all over the world. Longtime Marvel regulars Cobie Smulders and Martin Freeman reprise their roles as Maria Hill and Everett Ross, respectively, while Jackson’s “Captain Marvel” co-star Ben Mendelsohn is back as Skrull good guy Talos. Emilia Clarke plays Talos’ daughter G’iah, Olivia Colman is MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth and Kingsley Ben-Adir plays villainous Skrull extremist Gravik.

‘The Marvels’ teams Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan

The new movie (in theaters Nov. 10) is a sequel to both 2019’s “Captain Marvel” film and last year’s “Ms. Marvel” Disney+ show. When Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) investigates a wormhole tied to the Kree alien race, her superpowers become entangled with those of her superfan, Jersey City teen hero Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and Carol’s estranged niece, astronaut Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) – last seen on Disney+'s "WandaVision" – leading to an unexpected cosmic teaming.

Exit Chris Evans, enter Anthony Mackie with 'Captain America: New World Order'

After three movies with Chris Evans, the fourth Captain America solo film (May 3, 2024) features Anthony Mackie, whose Sam Wilson inherited the mantle and the shield in “The Falcon and the the Winter Soldier.” Two characters from that TV series return in the new film – Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres and Carl Lumbly as former super-soldier Isaiah Bradley – while Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader have their first MCU appearances since “The Incredible Hulk." Harrison Ford makes his Marvel debut as President “Thunderbolt” Ross, taking over the character originally played by the late William Hurt.

‘Thunderbolts’ brings together a motley crew of Marvel antiheroes

After making her debut in "Black Widow," Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) appeared in Disney+'s "Hawkeye" and next stars in "Thunderbolts."

The Avengers, this lot is not. In the comic books, the Thunderbolts are a group of supervillains working for the government – sort of like DC’s Suicide Squad. And while plot details are scarce about the movie (July 26, 2024), we do have a sense of the lineup, which includes “Black Widow” characters Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbour), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and John Walker, aka U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell). Julia Louis-Dreyfus is on tap to reprise her role as shady group leader/recruiter Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and the cast will also feature Marvel rookies Steven Yeun and Ayo Edebiri.

Mahershala Ali is next up as the fang-tastic ‘Blade’

Wesley Snipes had his turn and now it’s Mahershala Ali taking on the mantle of comic books’ coolest vampire hunter in a new movie (Sept. 6, 2024). Oscar winner Ali was announced as the half-human, half-vamp hero at Comic-Con in 2019 and had a voiceover cameo in an end-credit scene in “Eternals.” The cast also includes Mia Goth and Delroy Lindo, plus “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto was added as a writer, though pre-production on "Blade" was recently shut down by the writers strike.

'Loki' Season 2 leads crop of Disney+ series, including Daredevil's return

There are a plethora of undated Disney+ shows to roll out in the next year or so during Marvel's Phase 5. "Loki" Season 2 will likely be the first, again featuring Tom Hiddleston's fan-favorite trickster god, Owen Wilson's time-travel agent Mobius and Sophia Di Martino's Loki variant Sylvie. The new season is also set to include the MCU debut of newly minted Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan and the return of Jonathan Majors as Kang (and his many variants), though the latter's recent legal issues (including assault and harassment charges) give rise to questions about his status in the MCU going forward.

Also on the way:

  • A second season of the animated series "What If ...?" with Jeffrey Wright voicing the all-seeing Watcher.

  • Deaf actress Alaqua Cox headlines "Echo," a spinoff of "Hawkeye."

  • "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" breakout Dominique Thorne's inventive teen Riri Williams gets the spotlight in "Ironheart."

  • "WandaVision" scene-stealer Kathryn Hahn is back – with witchy new co-stars Patti LuPone and Aubrey Plaza – in "Agatha, Coven of Chaos."

  • Charlie Cox's blind superhero faces his nemesis Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) once more in "Daredevil: Born Again."

Phase 6 brings 'Deadpool 3,' 'Fantastic Four' and new 'Avengers' movies

Here's what's on tap for Phase 6:

  • Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reunite and crash the MCU with a third (and highly anticipated) untitled "Deadpool" movie (Nov. 8, 2024), as the wisecracking title mercenary and his clawed buddy Wolverine;

  • Marvel's "First Family" from the comics gets a third chance on the big screen with director Matt Shakman's "Fantastic Four" (Feb. 14, 2025). And while John Krasinski had a cameo as Reed Richards in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," no official cast has been announced yet;

  • Fans also await the next lineup of Marvel's storied group of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" (May 2, 2025) and "Avengers: Secret Wars" (May 1, 2026) – two other projects that could be affected by Majors' off-screen troubles.
