Oh baby, baby this is no oops! Britney Spears is getting a biopic.
Parade has confirmed that after a highly competitive auction, Universal Pictures has landed the rights to the pop singer’s 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked's Jon M. Chu is attached to direct, while Marc Platt will produce.
Britney took to her X account on Aug. 1 to tease a secret project with the La La Land producer. “Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt," she wrote. "He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned 🌹🎥.”

What is the Britney Spears movie about?
This is a story about a girl named...not Lucky, but Britney Spears. Universal Pictures, which has previously brought the biopics Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile to the big screen, has secured the rights to the "Oops!…I Did It Again" singer's bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me. Spears chronicled her journey in the book, which illuminated "the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms." Having an abortion after Justin Timberlake got her pregnant and why she shaved her head in 2007 were among the revelations in the memoir.
Ahead of the book's release in 2023, Spears said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter): "This book has been a labor of love and all the emotions that come with it,” adding, "Reliving everything has been exciting, heart-wrenching and emotional, to say the least."
In an interview with PEOPLE, Spears said that after getting out of her conservatorship, she was finally free to tell her story "without consequences from the people in charge" of her life.
“It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me,” she said. “No more conspiracy, no more lies—just me owning my past, present and future.”
Who will play Britney Spears in the Britney Spears biopic?
No word yet on who will be portraying the pop icon in the film. However, Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown has spoken in the past about wanting to play the Grammy winner. The actress told Drew Barrymore in 2022, "I want to play a real person and I think for me, Britney, would be Britney Spears."
Brown explained, "I think her story, first of all, resonates with me. Just growing up in the public eye, watching her videos, watching interviews of her when she was younger. I mean, same thing with you. It's like I see the scramble for words and I don't know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only."
