Everything We Know About Shadow and Bone Season 2

The hit Netflix series Shadow and Bone, based on Leigh Bardugo's bestselling novels, is returning for a second season.
The first season followed Alina (Jessie Mei Li) as she realized her powers as a sun summoner, and faced off against the Darkling (Ben Barnes). Showrunner Eric Heisserer said "both of them have a level up going into the second season," and we can expect to see their fight continue.

Netflix renewed the show in 2021.
"I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going," Bardugo said in a statement. "There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit, and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore. It’s going to be real magic to see our brilliant, talented cast expand."
In September 2022, Netflix shared a sneak peek at the season:
In the tease, the Darkling asks, "Are you ready to sacrifice what is most precious to you?"
In February 2023, the streamer dropped the full trailer:
"Adventure, danger, now you’re speaking my language," Nikolai, a new character, says in the trailer.
The entire cast is returning.
Along with Li and Barnes, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Danielle Galligan and Calahan Skogman are all returning to the Grishaverse.
They will be joined by four new additions to the cast: Anna Leong Brophy and Lewis Tan will play twins Tamar Kir-Bataar and Tolya Yul-Bataar; Patrick Gibson will play Alina's ally Nikolai Lantsov; and Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendriks, the final crow from Six of Crows.
The show will continue to be based on Leigh Bardugo's books.

The second season could draw from events in the second book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, Siege and Storm. Here's the description of what goes down in the story:
Alina Starkov’s power has grown, but not without a price. She is the Sun Summoner―hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Shadow Fold. But she and Mal can’t outrun their enemies for long. The Darkling is more determined than ever to claim Alina’s magic and use it to take the Ravkan throne. With nowhere else to turn, Alina enlists the help of an infamous privateer and sets out to lead the Grisha army. But as the truth of Alina's destiny unfolds, she slips deeper into the Darkling’s deadly game of forbidden magic, and further away from her humanity. To save her country, Alina will have to choose between her power and the love she thought would always be her shelter.
Like season one, however, the story will also draw from Barudgo's Six of Crows duology, including the six crows Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Wylan, Nina, and Matthias. While Wylan didn't appear in season one, an actor was cast to portray him in season two.
" I would love to talk about what we might get to see from Six of Crows in the second season," showrunner Heisserer told Collider. "I can tease this much that there will be a hundred percent more Wylan. We'd like to introduce him for sure. And we would like to spend at least a little bit more time in Ketterdam. We kind of had to yoink our Crows away from that in Season 1 and throw them toward the Fold and beyond for their heist. And I think at least part of next season should be a home game for our team."
Season two will premiere on March 16, 2023.
There will be eight episodes in the second season.
