Netflix’s next animated Castlevania series, Castlevania: Nocturne, is set to air soon, and fans are buzzing with excitement about the next chapter in the Belmonts’ story. The new series looks absolutely delightful if trailers are anything to go by, and given how great the original Castlevania series was, we get the feeling we’re in for a treat.

Ahead of the series’ launch, we thought we’d collect all the information about the upcoming adventure in vampire hunting and put it all in one place. This is everything you need to know about Castlevania: Nocturne, including its release date, release times, trailers, and more.

Castlevania: Nocturne – Release Date and Time

Castlevania: Nocturne’s first – and potentially only – season will consist of eight episodes, and all of those episodes will be available at the same time, on September 28. Like all Netflix original shows, including the recently released One Piece live-action series, Castlevania: Nocturne will be released at midnight in Pacific Time, on September 28, 2023.

Interested fans will be able to watch the first episode a day early, on September 27, when Castlevania: Nocturne has its early premiere as part of Netflix’s new Drop 01 presentation.

Here are the full release times for each region:

  • PT – 12:00 midnight

  • ET – 3:00am

  • BST – 8:00am

  • CEST – 9:00am

  • IST – 12:30pm

  • JST – 4:00pm

  • AEST – 5:00pm

Castlevania: Nocturne – Trailers

So far Netflix has only released two trailers for Castlevania: Nocturne, a very brief teaser for the Castlevania spinoff when it got a release date and a full-length trailer earlier this month. You can see that trailer (it’s very good) below:

Is Castlevania: Nocturne A Sequel?

Castlevania: Nocturne isn’t a sequel in the strictest sense, with Netflix itself calling the series a spinoff. That said, it’s a little more complicated than that, because it is set in the same world, and does take place after the original Castlevania Netflix series.

While the original series takes place in the 15th century, Nocturne skips forward a few hundred years to the 18th century, during the height of the French Revolution. Nocturne seems to be loosely based on Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and its follow-up, Symphony of the Night, which means there probably won’t be much of the original series – based on Castlevania III – in the mix.

That said, we can’t rule out the possibility of some returning characters, like Dracula and Alucard, both of whom are fairly present throughout the games Nocturne is loosely based on. We’ll have to wait and see.

Is Trevor Belmont In Castlevania Nocturne?

Trevor Belmont stole the show in the original Castlevania series, with a stunning storyline told across four seasons. Trevor was more than just the main character, he was the heart and soul of the show, and fans grew attached to him over the course of the series. Castlevania: Nocturne will be focusing on a different Belmont this time though, the fan favorite Richter, a hot-headed hero with a very stylish set of skills.

Unfortunately Trevor probably won’t be making an appearance in Castlevania: Nocturne. With the story being set some 200+ years after the original, realistically Trevor is long dead by the time the French Revolution kicks off. That said, time is strange in Dracula’s Castle, and there have been a meeting of the minds in various games, some non-canon and some kind of canon-ish. He could also appear as an apparition of some kind, there is some precedent for it, but we expect Netflix wants Richter to be front and center.

Castlevania: Nocturne – Cast

Castlevania: Nocturne will feature a mix of new, original characters and characters originally featured in Castlevania games, though it seems like at the moment the series might be leaning more towards the former than the latter outside of the big names. There’s Richter, of course, and Maria, as well as Annette, Tera, and Olrox, who all seem to have been given expanded roles in the new series.

Here’s the full cast list so far, though this is likely to expand when the series airs:

  • Richter Belmont – Edward Bluemel

  • Maria – Pixie Davies

  • Annette – Thuso Mbedu

  • Edouard – Sydney James Harcourt

  • Tera – Nastassja Kinski

  • Olrox – Zahn McClarnon

  • Erzsebet Báthory – Franka Potente
