Every Time a 'Big Brother' Eviction Was Canceled

Despite how twisty Big Brother can be, one constant has remained: Every week, at least one houseguest will be evicted by their competitors. But on some rare occasions across 25 seasons, a change in the game or an unexpected departure will stay the BB execution, stopping the eviction and giving one lucky person another shot at the game.

Here are all the times so far a Big Brother eviction has been canceled, and no one went home.

Big Brother eviction cancellations

Season 11

It took until 2009 for the first official cancellation of a Big Brother eviction to happen. In Week 6 of Big Brother 11, the house was reeling when Jeff Schroeder used his "Coup d'État" power to dethrone Head of Household Chima Simone to boot one of her closest allies Jessie Godderz. Jeff's ally Michele Noonan won HoH next and immediately put Chima up next to her ally Natalie Martinez. This served as the breaking point for Chima, who then threw her mic pack in the pool, expelling her from the season. Rather than have Michele nominate someone in Chima's place, the show decided to instead nullify the week, re-running the HoH competition the next day in lieu of a planned double eviction.

Season 14

For the first three weeks of Big Brother 14 in 2012, four legends of the game served as non-playing coaches alongside "teams" of new houseguests that they drafted. On Day 27, Frank Eudy sat on the block next to Joe Arvin after being backdoored by the HoH Shane Meaney, and seemed prime to be evicted. But an offer was given to the coaches: If they press the "Reset Button" in the Diary Room, the eviction would be canceled, and they would instead enter the game as full-fledged players. Three coaches took the offer, allowing Frank to avoid eviction and make a deep run into the game.

Season 16

A similar button-based offer appeared in the endgame of Big Brother 16 in 2014. At the beginning of Week 11, a big button was put in the former Have-Not room. Despite not knowing what the circumstances of their actions were, the final five houseguests decided to press the button, triggering a countdown. The week went through as normal, with Frankie Grande winning HoH and Victoria Rafaeli primed to go. But when the countdown finished on eviction day, it was revealed the button was part of the "Big Brother Rewind." The events of the previous week were nullified, and the exact same HoH and Veto competitions were replayed. The golden button proved to be Frankie's undoing, as he lost HoH this time around, and the rest of the house evicted him.

Season 19

In Week 3 of 2017's Big Brother 19, Jessica Graf had won a fan vote to enter the "Den of Temptation," most likely due to the recent boot of her showmance partner Cody Nickson. Inside the secret room, Jessica was given a power in the "Halting Hex," which allowed her to cancel one of the next four evictions. A couple of weeks later, Cody had returned, only for the pair to become house pariahs and get put up on the block next to each other. Jessica used her Halting Hex on Day 44, preventing one of their evictions. But it was only a temporary salve, as Jessica went right out the door the very next week.

Season 24

Big Brother 24 had a lot going on in its first week. The 2022 season automatically put three houseguests in jeopardy on the very first night via the mysterious "Backstage" twist. But over the course of the week, all eyes were on Taylor Hale, as Paloma Aguilar helped turn the entire house against her, culminating in her getting backdoored. As was revealed later, what was supposed to happen next was that the evictee (most likely Taylor) would face off against one of the Backstage people (either Paloma or Alyssa Snider) in a competition, with the loser going home. But the plan got shot to sunshine when Paloma chose to leave the game due to her deteriorating mental state. As such, the eviction was canceled, Taylor was saved, and the rest was (literal) history.

Season 25

In the most recent Big Brother season, Week 4 unleashed a brand-new "BB Power of Invincibility" on the house. Its secretive user was able to reverse one of the next two evictions after the votes came in. Jag Bains was designated the week's target, but was one of the four houseguests selected by popular vote to play. Unfortunately, he lost to Matt Klotz, and was voted out unanimously. But he, the house, and the audience were shocked to see Matt had used the Power of Invincibility, stopping Jag's eviction and keeping him in the house.
