Every Look Taylor Swift Has Ever Worn to the Met Gala

Taylor Swift at the 2016 Met Gala

While Taylor Swift may not be Hollywood's most daring fashionista, she is perhaps the biggest celebrity in the world, and with that much power come invites to the biggest events, including the Met Gala. Since she burst onto the scene in the mid-2000s, the pop star has made six appearances at the A-list event, donning stunning gowns from designers like Oscar de la Renta and Louis Vuitton. Her first appearance at the annual Met Gala celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute was way back in 2008, when Miss Swift was still in her very first era.

Since her Met Gala debut, Taylor Swift has appeared on the Met's steps six times from 2008 to 2016, when she co-hosted the event (and supposedly met Tom Hiddleston and Joe Alwyn). Given her star power, it seems highly unlikely that she has not been invited most, if not every, year since that last showing. Yet for reasons unknown, Swift has not walked the red carpet on the first Monday in May since, and perhaps never will.

The 2024 Met Gala will be held on May 6, with the theme "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" and a dress code of "The Garden of Time." Anna Wintour will be presiding over the event as she has for decades now, and we're certain to see plenty of stunning looks on the red carpet for fashion's biggest night.

Here's everything we know about a potential appearance by Taylor Swift in 2024 and Swift's history at the Met Gala:

Will Taylor Swift be at the 2024 Met Gala?

While you can never count out a surprise, it looks like Taylor Swift will not be attending the Met Gala for the eighth year in a row. People confirmed that Swift would not be making an appearance as she is prepping for the European leg of her Eras Tour which begins on May 9 in Paris, France. According to air traffic records, her jet is currently in Paris, which confirms that she won't be attending. TMZ did report, however, that Swift was invited to the Gala this year, and Wintour pretty much confirmed the invitation in an interview with Today's Jenna Bush Hager.

"And [Wintour] said, 'I hope she comes and enjoys the exhibit,'" Bush Hager said. "So that could be yes, that could be no, which is what the reports are saying."

Only 18, Swift was fairly new on the scene, winding down the promotion of her self-titled debut album and no doubt already plotting the arrival of Fearless later that year. On her first outing, Swift stuck with her early career signature gold curls and a simple gold gown from Badgley Mischka. The theme of the year was "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy," but Swift played it fairly safe.

Not one for taking big fashion swings, Swift appeared in a simple, cream Ralph Lauren gown. This is also the first appearance of Swift's signature red lip at the Met.

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images

Swift, and her red lip, returned to the Met Gala the following year, only a few months after the release of Speak Now. Stepping outside of her comfort zone a bit for the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" theme, Swift donned this J. Mendel gown, which included mesh and lace layers. It's easily one of her more interesting red carpet looks.

This time, during the RED era, Swift donned a black gown with cutouts and a jewel collar. While not the most out-of-the-box look to walk the "PUNK: Chaos To Courture" carpet, it was quite dramatic for the pre-Reputation Taylor.

Neilson Barnard/Getty Images

The following year, post-haircut and pre-1989, Swift wore this sumptuous pink Oscar de la Renta dress for the "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" theme. This is Swift's most "Met Gala" look with its long train and stunning detailing. Swift kept her red lip, but paired it with the bob haircut that would define the era.

Mike Coppola/Getty Images

The 2016 Met Gala is one that will live forever in the minds of Swifties. To start, after five appearances in the previous eight years, Swift was asked to be a co-chair for the "Manus x Machina" technology-inspired gala. With her new platinum blonde hair, dark lipstick and metallic dress, Swift executed one of the most daring and iconic looks of her entire career. While her breakup with Calvin Harris, International Snake Day feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, and her disappearance from the public would not take place for several months, her Louis Vuitton ensemble seem to somehow predict the upcoming Reputation era. While still publicly with Harris, this Met Gala is also supposedly where she met not one, but two of her future boyfriends, Tom Hiddleston and Joe Alwyn. The 2016 Met Gala is also noteworthy as Swift has not appeared back at the event since. Will she ever return? Only time will tell.
