Mortal Kombat 1 is out now, and if reviews, previews, and trailers are anything to go by it could be one of the biggest evolutions the series has ever seen. MK1 is a fresh start for the series, turning the universe of Mortal Kombat on its head with a whole new rebooted universe. With all new characters featuring alongside some reimagined, returning favorites, there's something for old fans and new fans alike in the upcoming game.

Mortal Kombat 1 features almost 30 playable characters, with most of those being in the base game and about half a dozen being available as post-launch DLC, as well as over a dozen Kameo Fighters. Kameo Fighters won’t be directly playable like their main fighter counterparts, but will instead be selectable by each player to perform an assist move to help out in battle.

We’ve put together a handy list of every playable character in Mortal Kombat 1, including Kameo Fighters and DLC characters.

Mortal Kombat 1: All base game characters

There are 24 playable characters available in Mortal Kombat 1 at launch, although one of those is locked behind a preorder bonus. That character, noted below, is available as post-launch paid DLC.

Mortal Kombat 1: All DLC characters

In addition to Shang Tsung, who will be available as paid DLC after the launch of the game, Warner Bros. has announced the Kombat Pack, a kind of season pass that will include 6 post-launch characters. The pass includes characters from The Boys, Invincible (which recently got a season 2 release date), and Peacemaker, making it quite an interesting set. We don’t know exactly when each of these characters will be released, but we can probably expect they’ll be released every few months in the year following the game’s launch.

Mortal Kombat 1: All Kameo Fighters

The Kameo Fighter system is probably the biggest new addition to Mortal Kombat 1, offering a second roster of characters that can be set as a helper. Each of these characters will have an assist move, and players will be able to call on one selected Kameo Fighter to perform that move in combat. Unfortunately, it does mean that these characters are unlikely to ever be playable characters in Mortal Kombat 1, but that they’ll be there to lend a hand is good enough.
