EVANSVILLE — In her two most high-profile appointments, Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry today named Phil Smith to be the city's new police chief and Tony Knight to be fire chief.

Smith, who had been assistant police chief, will succeed Billy Bolin, former Mayor Lloyd Winnecke's choice to be top cop. Knight succeeds Fire Chief Paul Anslinger, who held the job briefly after Chief Mike Connelly's abrupt and unexpected resignation and retirement in September for reasons no one has disclosed.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
