Be Happy Pie Company opening second location

Be Happy Pie Company will be opening an East Side location on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Free pie samples, raffle prizes and coffee will be on the menu all week alongside Be Happy’s big selection of pies, pastries, cookies, pot pies, quiche and more.

Black Lodge Coffee Roasters in New Harmony, Indiana, is serving bagels with lox on the weekends. The bagel is toasted, coated with a cream cheese spread, then topped with thin sliced lox (cold, smoked salmon), pickled red onions, radish slices, microgreens, fresh herbs and lemon. These are added to the menu of coffee and espresso beverages made with house roasted beans and pastries from local bakers.

Evansville Pizza Week

Evansville Pizza Week is happening from Sunday, Jan. 14- Saturday, Jan. 20. About a dozen restaurants around town will be offering special deals and discounts on traditional and creative pizzas.

Participants include Roca Bar of Evansville, the Franklin Street Pizza Factory, Chasers, Lombardi's, and others. Pick up a passport at any participating location, complete it with five or more locations, and turn in to be registered for prize drawings. West Side pizza restaurant closes

Harmony Pizza, the West Side pizza shop at Harmony Way and Maryland Street, has closed. The building housed Stan's Una Pizza for many years; then held Twisted 2Mato, a second location of the Evansville Twisted Tomato Pizza Co.; and most recently Harmony Pizza and a second incarnation of Harmony Pizza by the owners of Parkway Pizza on Broadway.

Hoosier Burger has new home

Hoosier Burger Co. and Nel’s Pizza has closed the drive-through building on Green River Road. Hoosier Burger has moved and is now located inside Catfish Willy’s Seafood and Comfort Cuisine restaurant. Nel’s Pizza is no longer available. The new streamlined Hoosier Burger menu includes favorites such as the chop cheese, bacon cheeseburger, Grippo’s cheeseburger, a fried tenderloin and deep fried hot dog, and sides such as Hoosier style fries with sauce, cheese and fried onion, bacon ranch cheese fries and others. Food may be ordered for pickup or delivery or may be ordered to eat inside the restaurant.

Cheese Balls to benefit Alzheimer's Association

Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation will be selling Cheese Balls for a Cause on Friday, Jan. 19, beginning at 5 p.m. Cheeseballs are $15 for one or $40 for three. Choose flavors from classic cheese and onion, western with bacon, Mexican, or chocoholic chocolate and peanut butter. Orders and payment must be received by Friday, Jan. 19. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Order forms are available at the rehabilitation. Call for more information at 812-838-6554.

Long-time pizza shop stays open with new owners

The Pizza Depot is open with new owners and new recipes. On the menu are appetizers and bread sticks, salads, pizza oven sandwiches such as the Mega Meat Strom, the chicken bacon ranch, and a chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich with chicken, ham, bacon, mozzarella and honey mustard. Specialty pizzas include a Southwest chicken pizza, a house Italian pizza with Italian garden dressing, a taco pizza, bacon cheeseburger pizza and more, and there is beer to accompany.

Colombian food truck now offering coffee beans

Sabor Colombia food truck is now offering 4 ounce bags of Colombian coffee which they are bringing from their own supplier in Colombia and having roasted in Morganfield, Ky. Choose light, medium or dark roasts or beans specially ground for cold brew. Bags are $4.50 plus tax. The benefits of medicinal mushrooms

Water of the Gods: A look at the medicinal benefits of mushroom tea will be presented by Nature's Legacy Mushrooms at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Central Branch on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. You'll learn about four medicinal mushrooms, how to identify them, their properties and how to make tea.
