Eugene-area top performers: North Eugene's Francesca Tomp captures district golf title

Eugene-area athletes continue to improve as the postseason nears for high school spring sports.

Here are the top local performers in girls and boys golf, baseball and softball.

Girls golf

North Eugene's Francesca Tomp shot a two-day score of 152 to win the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships.

The junior and two-time 5A state champion notched her third district title and qualified for the state championship May 13-14 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.

North Eugene won the team title and was an automatic state qualifier.

Thurston's Olivia Grandberry shot a two-day score of 158 to finish in second place at the district tournament. She was an automatic state qualifier.

Thurston's Camille Gamble (215) had a hole-in-one on the eighth hole and will compete in regionals. The Colts' Karl Ogan (259) was also a regional qualifier.

Boys golf

Thurston's Trison Hedges shot a two-day score of 162 to finish in second place at the boys 5A Midwestern League District Championships. He was an automatic state qualifier.

Thurston won the team title and was an automatic state qualifier.

North Eugene finished in fourth place and was a regional qualifier. The Highlanders' Caden Etchison finished tied for fourth (168) and earned a berth as a state alternate.

Baseball

Thurston baseball defeated Eagle Point, 3-1, marking their 13th straight victory in the first of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Grady Saunders struck out 11 batters in six innings pitched, while allowing five hits, one earned run and four walks. Eli Crist earned the save, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one in one inning pitched.

Adam Elliott and Kyle Miller each produced a double for the Colts. Elliott, Miller and Brock Johnson each scored a run. Crist added a hit and two RBIs.

Elsewhere, Junction City defeated Cottage Grove, 11-1, marking their seventh straight victory on the season on Tuesday.

Noah Cook led the Tigers with a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Madix Waldrop had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Conner Clift, Jayden Lucas and Kaden Shafer each had a double for the Tigers.

Anthony Eubanks scored the lone run for Cottage Grove.

In North Eugene's 2-1 series win over Crater, freshman Aiden Hibler had four hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Willamette dropped a 2-1 walk-off loss to North Medford on Tuesday. Tyson Rather scored the lone run for the Wolverines.

Myles Cox tossed seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out five. Mason Christian pitched in the eighth inning.

Softball

Sheldon softball defeated South Eugene, 18-0, marking their 13th straight victory on Tuesday.

Payton Burnham tossed her second straight shutout, allowing a combined three hits while striking out 26 in 11 innings pitched.

Hitting lead-off, the Irish's Brooke Peterson had a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored against the Axe. Kinley Pappas had a hit, RBI and two runs scored.

Braelyn Stone saw action on the varsity team, adding two hits, three RBIs and a run scored.

Catia Ransford had the sole hit for the Axe.

Creswell defeated La Pine, 13-1, to cap a three-game series sweep Friday.

Hope Ukolov hit a home run, adding two hits, three RBIs and a run scored for the Bulldogs. Elise Thackara tossed seven innings, allowing a hit, run and two walks while striking out five.

Junction City defeated Cottage Grove, 22-2, on Tuesday. Lily Buendia led the Tigers with a hit, four RBIs and three runs scored.

The Springfield Millers defeated Ashland, 10-3, in the first of a three-game series on Tuesday. Reagan Kumle led the Millers with a double, three RBIs, and run scored. Holly Arendt added a hit, RBI and three runs scored.

Lilliana Wobbe tossed seven innings, allowing nine hits, two earned runs while striking out eight for the Millers.
