ESPN's Mike Breen won't call NBA East finals Game 7 after contracting COVID-19
The voice of ESPN's NBA coverage won't be on the mic for Sunday's Eastern Conference finals Game 7.
An ESPN representative told multiple media outlets Sunday that play-by-play announcer Mike Breen contracted COVID-19 and won't call the game between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. Per the announcement, Breen is feeling fine and hopes to be back on the call for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.
Mark Jones will call Sunday's game alongside analysts Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. Jones has worked at ESPN since 1990 including play-by-play coverage for NBA and college football games alongside studio work.
The winner of Sunday's game advances to face the Golden State Warriors, who will host Game 1 on Thursday.
Breen, 61, won a Sports Emmy last week for outstanding personality/play-by-play for his work calling NBA games for ESPN. He has called 16 straight NBA Finals for the network.
