ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum has made his pick for the College Football Playoff No. 4 spot. It’ll surprise a few fans.

Finebaum is known for being an SEC homer, but he’s putting his biases aside when it comes to the College Football Playoff.

The ESPN college football analyst says that Notre Dame, not Texas A&M, is deserving of the No. 4 seed this year.

“It’s not a compelling case but you also have to look at it and say does Texas A&M have an unequivocal shot or case to be the No. 4 team and I think that’s where it gets problematic for the Aggies,” Finebaum said.“You can’t put all the stock on that 28 pint loss to Alabama but you also have to look at what’s happened since then. They’ve been very consistent. But they beat Tennessee yesterday, which is a very pedestrian team at 3-7. Notre Dame was playing with two or three of the best teams in the country. Ultimately, I think the committee is going to look at Notre Dame’s win at Clemson and that’s going to be the difference maker.”

Finebaum is probably going to be right, but we won’t know for sure until this afternoon.

The final College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled at noon E.T.

It’ll air on ESPN.
