The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team is finally getting the national respect it did not get last season.

Miami (20-5, 11-4 ACC) moved up four spots to No. 15 in the AP poll on Monday and jumped seven places in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll to the No. 13 spot.

It is the 10th week in a row UM is ranked in both major national polls. Last season, Miami remained unranked all season and wound up making a run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

The Hurricanes won both of their games last week, including an 81-59 home blowout Monday against Duke and a 93-85 win over Louisville five days later. They are on the road Monday night against North Carolina (7 p.m., ESPN).

The national media has been commenting on Miami in recent weeks.

ESPN commentator Jay Bilas heaped praise on the Hurricanes during “College Game Day” during the weekend: “I think Miami is developing into another Elite Eight team under Jim Larranaga. They’ve got guys that can score all over the floor. They play with freedom, and they’re shot-makers. They can go into isolation, they run good stuff, but they can also go on their own and get a bucket. I’d say they’re looking like the best team in the ACC right now.”

Seventh-ranked Virginia and No. 23 NC State are the only other ACC teams ranked this week.
