ESPN’s First Take is taking some justified heat for disparaging comments made by the show’s panelists about the city of Milwaukee.

On Tuesday, the contingent of Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman and Molly Qerim Rose was joined by ESPN NFL analyst Damien Woody. During the segment, Woody chided the group about the possible destinations for the NBA Finals this year.

“Do you really wanna be in Milwaukee?” Woody asked, with Stephen A. responding “Hell no.”

Qerim Rose then brought up that she didn’t know if the program would be traveling to the NBA Finals this year, which she is happy about because it will be in “terrible cities.” Smith went on to say he was rooting for the Hawks and Clippers in their respective conference finals so he didn’t have to travel to Milwaukee or Phoenix.

Not surprisingly, there has been backlash to these remarks, particularly from Bucks supporters and Milwaukee natives.

The Bucks themselves penned an open letter to First Take extolling the virtues of “this welcoming gem of a city” known as Milwaukee.

In short, these jokes were a low blow from the First Take crew. No, Milwaukee does not have the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles, Miami and New York, for example, but it doesn’t deserve to get ripped on in this manner.

Heaven forbid a smaller market team actually wins something in the NBA.
