ESPN Computer Releases College Football Preseason Top 25
The ESPN College Football Power Index has calculated its top-25 teams heading into the 2022 season.
These rankings are calculated using the expected point margin against an average team on a neutral field (FPI).
Alabama Crimson Tide
Ohio State Buckeyes
Georgia Bulldogs
Clemson Tigers
Notre Dam Fighting Irish
Texas Longhorns
Michigan Wolverines
Oklahoma Sooners
Pittsburgh Panthers
Auburn Tigers
LSU Tigers
Penn State Nittany Lions
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Texas A&M Aggies
Utah Utes
Michigan State Spartans
Ole Miss Rebels
Miami Hurricanes
Baylor Bears
Kentucky Wildcats
Wisconsin Badgers
North Carolina Tar Heels
Oregon Ducks
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Florida Gators
Nick Saban’s Alabama squad find themselves in a familiar spot at the No. 1 position, despite falling to the Georgia Bulldogs in this past year’s National Championship game.
Clemson’s FPI has them poised as a top-5 team in the nation despite notching an uncharacteristic three-loss season in 2021. The Tigers’ ACC-rival Pittsburgh Panthers also made their way into the top-10 despite losing star quarterback Kenny Pickett to the 2022 NFL draft.
The Texas A&M Aggies rank all the way back at No. 14 despite welcoming the top recruiting class in the nation this coming season.
This ranking system clearly has some flaws.
What do you think of the early top-25 list?
