ESPN Analyst Has Blunt Message For The Las Vegas Raiders
There’s been a ton of buzz surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders ever since Jon Gruden returned to the franchise in 2018, but the team has just a 19-29 record during that span.
While it’s possible the Raiders turn things around and snap their playoff drought this upcoming season, ESPN’s Marcus Spears isn’t very confident in their chances.
On Tuesday afternoon, Spears revealed the main reason why he’s not so optimistic about the Raiders this fall. He’s just not a believer in Gruden’s defense.
“Since Jon Gruden got to Las Vegas, they’ve been 29th, 30th, 31st and 28th in defense,” Spears said on NFL Live. “They can’t cover nobody, and we all watched it and witnessed it last year in a lot of games where they weren’t able to get it done.”

The Raiders addressed their defense this offseason, signing defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and drafting safety Tre’Von Moehrig. However, there are still plenty of unknowns on that side of the football.
Fortunately for Las Vegas, the offense has a handful of proven playmakers who could carry them to success this fall. Derek Carr, Kenyan Drake, Josh Jacobs and Darren Waller should all be very productive during the 2021 season.
If the Raiders start playing complementary football, they’ll have a chance at making the playoffs. And if they don’t, Gruden’s seat could get a little warm by the end of the year.
