Eric Hosmer had a funny response to Bobby Witt Jr.’s new Royals contract

Eric Hosmer was among the people to congratulate shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. on his new and very large contract with the Royals.

However, Hosmer wondered if Witt didn’t get quite everything he could have from the Royals.

Oh, to be clear, Hosmer had no issue with the financial aspect of the megadeal, which tops more than $375 million over 14 years. No, Hosmer joked that Witt should have asked for a cherry on top of the agreement.

“Congrats to everyone involved in this deal,” Hosmer wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Very happy for the KC fans however I will say if there’s no Super Bowl suite for the boys worked into this I’m gonna have a lot of questions about @BwittJr leadership!”

Hosmer, who was taken by the Royals with the third overall pick of the 2008 MLB Draft, is keenly aware that the Chiefs are playing in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. And that was a funny response to Witt’s new contract.

And he knows something about big contracts.

Hosmer played for the Royals from 2011-17 and helped them win the 2015 World Series. He left KC after signing an eight-year, $144 million contract with the San Diego Padres.

A 2022 trade sent Hosmer to Boston and he played 31 games with the Cubs last season. He is currently a free agent.
