The top highlights of Boston Calling 2018

Updated

Harvard University was the place to be over Memorial Day weekend as Boston Calling drew tens of thousands of fans for an A-list music and comedy lineup. Here’s what you missed if you weren’t able to make it this year:

Eminem addressing those Nicki Minaj rumors: Everyone was pumped for Eminem’s much-anticipated Sunday performance, and in addition to a great show, he gave an unexpected nod to recent headlines about a rumored relationship with Nicki Minaj. “Yo, Boston, how many people in here want me to date Nicki Minaj?” he asked the roaring crowd. “Well, god damn it, me too. Nicki, if you get this message, just text me later, we’ll talk about it.”

He also joked, “Sweetheart, I’ll be home tonight, we’ll figure this s--t out -- how we’re gonna deal with this publicly.”

Guess there’s no real romance there -- but hey, the summer’s just begun.

The laid-back summer vibe: Boston Calling isn’t a wannabe Coachella, and that’s a good thing. The crowd isn’t stressed about showing off their perfect outfits for even-more-perfect Instagrams. Instead, the fashion is about staying comfortable and cool in the heat. You can’t go wrong in a ‘47 hat -- the Boston-born brand was the official headwear and apparel provider of the weekend -- with a trendy top and distressed denim. (Side note: Joe Jonas, Will Smith and Lady Gaga are also big fans of '47.)

We also loved that even though alcohol is in no short supply, Boston Calling is family-friendly -- perfect for parents who want to introduce their kids early to the live music scene.

Paramore’s electric Friday night set: More than a decade after becoming a household name, Paramore’s live performances are better than ever. The hour-and-a-half long set had the crowd buzzing from start to finish, and lead singer Hayley Williams is, as always, a talent to be reckoned with.

The only thing: We totally get that the band may be sick of doing “Misery Business,” but give the crowd what they want!

Taking respite from the rain with a stellar comedy lineup: Sunday’s weather left much to be desired, but the indoor arena offered alternative entertainment for those who weren’t willing to brave the elements. Max Silvestri, who opened for John Mulaney through his “Kid Gorgeous” tour, was a particular hit with the crowd.
