Primo Cancelled at Freevee After ‘Short but Beautiful Run,’ Says Creator

Primo, the coming-of-age comedy inspired by the life of author/journalist/former teacher Shea Serrano, has been cancelled at Freevee after just one eight-episode season.

Serrano — who created the series and served as an executive producer alongside Michael Schur, David Miner, Morgan Sackett, Peter Murrieta and Lisa Muse Bryant — shared the sad news on social media, almost exactly one year after the show’s May 2023 binge release.

Hailing “a short but beautiful run,” Serrano wrote on Tuesday, “sadly we’re not gonna be making any more episodes of PRIMO.

“I will always be indebted to everyone who worked on the show to make it so great and I will always be thankful to everyone who watched and championed it,” Serrano continued. “Thank you for real — long live PRIMO.”

Primo also starred Johnny Rey Diaz (Grey’s Anatomy), Henri Esteve (grown-ish), Martin Martinez (Magnum P.I.), Jonathan Medina (Walker Independence), Carlos Santos (Gentefied), Nigel Siwabessy, Efrain Villa (Better Call Saul), and Stakiah Lynn Washington.
