That Girl Lay Lay Cancelled at Nickelodeon

Say bye-bye to Lay Lay.

That Girl Lay Lay will end with Season 2, which is currently airing, TVLine has confirmed.

Per the series’ official logline, That Girl Lay Lay follows a character named Lay Lay (played by Alaya “That Girl Lay Lay” High), “an avatar from a personal affirmation app that magically comes to life, and her best friend Sadie (Gabrielle Nevaeh, Monster High/All That) as they navigate life as teenagers and discover who they truly are.” David A. Arnold (Fuller House) is creator and showrunner.

The cast also includes Tiffany Daniels (General Hospital), Thomas Hobson (Driven), Peyton R. Perrine III (Kenan) and Andrea Barber (Full House/Fuller House).

The series debuted in September 2021.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Nickelodeon said: “After 46 episodes across two seasons of That Girl Lay Lay, we are ending production on the show, and we are incredibly grateful to the cast and crew for their immeasurable contributions on the production.”

In related Nickelodeon news: The cable network has ordered  Fairly OddParents: A New Wish, which is being described as a “reimagining” of the Emmy-winning cartoon. The revival will premiere on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and stream internationally on Netflix at an as-yet-unspecified date.

A New Wish stars Ashleigh Crystal Hairston (Tiny Toons Looniversity, Craig of the Creek) as the voice of Hazel Wells, “an adventurous 10-year-old with unique interests and an even wilder imagination” who “has just moved to the big city of Dimmadelphia because of her dad’s new job,” according to the official logline. “On top of being in an unfamiliar environment, it’s the first time she’s been without her brother, Antony, who’s just left for college, leaving her lonely and unsure of herself. All that changes when the pink-and-green-haired neighbors next door reveal that they are no ordinary neighbors… they’re Cosmo and Wanda, fairy godparents! And they’re coming out of retirement to make all of Hazel’s wishes come true.”
