Criminal Record Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+
Six months after its freshman season ended, we now have a verdict about Criminal Record‘s fate: The crime thriller will be back for Season 2 at Apple TV+, TVLine has learned.
Series star Cush Jumbo appeared to break the renewal news back in February during an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she answered, “There will be, yeah,” when asked if there would be a second season. At the time, however, an Apple rep told TVLine that Criminal Record had yet to be formally picked up.
Criminal Record stars Jumbo (The Good Fight) and Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) as two brilliant detectives — one a young woman in the early stages of her career, the other a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy — who, in Season 1, were drawn into a confrontation over an old murder case after an anonymous phone call. The Season 1 cast also included Aysha Kala, Shaun Dooley, Tom Moutchi, Charlie Creed-Miles, Dionne Brown, Zoë Wanamaker, Cathy Tyson and Stephen Campbell Moore.
In Season 2, “June Lenker (Jumbo) is the senior officer on the scene when a political rally is attacked by far-right counter-protestors,” according to the official logline. “The violent clash leaves a young man dead and June, consumed with guilt, is desperate to bring the unknown killer to justice. It seems as if her best hope is Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi), now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence. He may have the answers she needs but to get his help she will have to accept a dangerous bargain.”
The eight-episode first season wrapped on Feb. 21, but there’s currently no timetable for the show’s return. Are you happy to hear it’s coming back?
