Enjoy a walk while reading pages of a children's book at a York County park

Looking for a new way to read with your child?

Check out the new StoryWalk at Springettsbury Township Park, which is located at 1501 Mount Zion Road.

Families will be able to walk along a path in the park and read pages from a children's book, which will change throughout the year, according to a news release from Springettsbury Township and the York County Libraries.

"This initiative represents a beautiful fusion of literature, nature and community spirit," Springettsbury Township Parks and Recreation Director Brandy Shope said in a news release. "The new StoryWalk combines the joy of reading with outdoor recreation, allowing families and children to enjoy a story whole exploring the natural beauty of the park."

"The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson," according to Book Riot.

Other communities in the United States and in 13 countries have started a StoryWalk®, the release states.

"We are delighted to be partnering with Springettsbury Township to offer this fun learning opportunity for area families," York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert said in the news release. "During the StoryWalk, a child may see a squirrel or bird in the book and then see the real animal in the park. The experience brings the book to life and provides an immediate and natural way for parents to expand their child's understanding of the world around them."
