Enjoy National Cheeseburger Day at WA’s favorite chain, although its an unpopular choice

National Cheeseburger Day is Sunday, Sept. 18 and while choosing where to celebrate, each state has its favorite chain where residents get their burger fix.

Washington’s most popular chain may not come at a surprise, but is one of the least popular choices across the county, according to a new study by market research firm Top Data.

So what is Washington’s most popular burger chain? Just follow the golden arches.

McDonald’s ranked as the most popular burger chain in Washington, along with only five other states, according to Top Data. They found the most popular burger chains by state using GPS tracking data and a survey of 1,000 Americans.

In Washington state, the top burger chain, McDonald’s, was followed by Burger King, Wendy’s and Carl’s Jr.

States in the central southern portion of the U.S. favored A&W, and most states in the east named Steak ‘n Shake as their favorite burger chain restaurant.

McDonald’s was also the most popular burger chain in Idaho, Indiana, New Jersey, Maryland and New Hampshire. Although Mcdonald’s was the favorite in two northwest states, Idaho and Washington, they are surrounded by states who favor Five Guys, Steak ‘n Shake and In-N-Out.

According to Top Data, Steak ‘n Shake is the most-favored burger chain in seven states - the most of any chain. States in the east in particular are fans, as it is known for its steak burgers and extra thick and creamy milkshakes. Steak ‘n Shake has very few locations in the western part of the U.S., only in California and Nevada, but has many locations throughout the east coast.
