Emmy Winner and Filmmaker Ross McDonnell Missing in New York City

Ross McDonnell, an Emmy-winning cinematographer from Ireland, has been reported missing in the New York City area.

The filmmaker was reportedly last seen on Saturday, Nov. 4, and last thought to be in the Fort Tilden Historic District in Queens late that evening into early the next morning, as his bike was later found locked on a rack on the former United States Army installation's property.

The 44-year-old is described as 5'9" with a thin, athletic build in his missing person's poster, which friends began circulating on Twitter over the weekend.

The flyer notes that they are looking for some of his belongings, which they believe may lead to "clues to his disappearance." Specifically, friends and investigators are searching for his red puffy North Face vest and black North Face backpack, black and white sneakers, and a dark pair of khaki pants. Anyone who may have picked up his belongings is kindly asked to contact the number on the flyer or drop them off with FDNY Engine 329, with no consequences and no questions asked.

Editor Nicola Tallant is just one of many close contacts raising awareness of McDonnell's disappearance, writing, "My good friend and amazing photographer and film maker Ross McDonnell is missing in seas off NYC. He is from Howth in Dublin but has travelled the world … and some ….capturing the lives of many. Emmy award winning, compassionate, humble and so many plans," alongside his missing person's poster.

Journalist Ioan Grillo also shared the flyer and a map showing his last known location, writing, "Ross McDonnell - friend, colleague, and phenomenal photographer and filmmaker - is disappeared in New York. His bike was discovered at Fort Tilden Beach. Please help spread this and anyone there with any info, please come forward. Ross is a diamond who is in all out hearts."

McDonnell's friend Gene Gallerano, who seems to be the same person who created the flyer, told The Irish Times that they believe he “went out into the ocean” and hasn't been seen since.

“He was last seen last Saturday night, the alarm was sounded on Sunday, we don’t know much more than that,” he continued, describing it as "a very, very emotionally heavy week.”

At this time, no further details about his disappearance have been released, but we're hoping for his safe return soon.
