Emily Blunt looks set for another reunion with Jungle Cruise co-star Dwayne Johnson.

Blunt, who starred alongside Johnson in the 2021 Disney movie, is reportedly in talks to appear in The Smashing Machine, which focuses on the life of mixed martial arts champion Mark Kerr.

According to Variety, Blunt is being lined up to star as Kerr's wife Dawn Staples, who "struggles to find her place within Mark’s chaotic and contradictory world".

Johnson will play Kerr, with the movie set to follow "the legendary MMA fighter from the no-holds-barred era of the UFC at the peak of his career", and documents his "struggles with addiction, winning, love and friendship in the year 2000".

The Smashing Machine comes from director Benny Safdie, who starred with Blunt in Oppenheimer, with the new project dating back to 2019 amid talks between Johnson and the director.

While The Smashing Machine was put on the backburner, Blunt encouraged Johnson to make the movie a few years later after watching a documentary on Kerr, with her and Safdie's time together on Oppenheimer pushing Safdie to reconnect with Johnson.

“Dwayne and Benny are singular talents, and their shared vision for Mark’s inspiring story is electrifying," A24's Noah Sacco previously said. "We are deeply honoured to have their trust as collaborators in bringing this incredibly special project to life.”

The reteaming comes after Johnson and Blunt were confirmed as producers Amazon's Kate Warne, which is also lining up the actress to star.

The story follows the real-life titular law enforcement officer, who broke ground as the first female US detective at the Pinkerton Agency.

The Smashing Machine will begin filming this summer, though is yet to confirm a release date.
