Elton John postpones rest of North American tour amid coronavirus pandemic

Elton John has postponed the rest of his 2020 North American tour amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The iconic singer announced Thursday that all of his concerts that were slated to take place between May 22 and July 8 are being pushed back indefinitely.

He had previously postponed his shows scheduled for March 26 and May 2 on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour.

"Elton promises to continue performing live for all his dedicated fans around the world again and thanks you for your endless support," reads a statement shared on John's official Twitter page.

Slews of events including concerts, movie releases and sports have been postponed or canceled in recent weeks in response to the coronavirus outbreak as people continue to practice social distancing and isolate themselves in their homes.

John, 72, began his nearly three-year retirement tour in September 2018. He is currently scheduled to begin a European leg of the tour on Sept. 5.

The "Tiny Dancer" artist has not announced any rescheduled dates for the concerts he previously postponed.

"Ticketholders of all 2020 postponed performances should hold onto their original tickets as new show date information for 2021 will be announced soon," reads another tweet Thursday on John's account. "All original tickets will be honored at the rescheduled performances."

The Who, the Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Shania Twain, Thom Yorke, Justin Bieber and Camila Cabello are among the big name acts who have also postponed or canceled concerts during the pandemic.
