Elle Fanning Is a Literal Princess at the Met Gala

Elle Fanning looked like royalty at the 2024 Met Gala.
Wearing a custom, transparent Balmain dress and Cartier jewelry, the actress beautifully captured the theme of the red carpet.
In the "Garden of Time," J.G. Ballard's short story originally published in 1962, which served as the inspiration for tonight's dress code, aristocrat Count Axel plucks magical crystal flowers each night to stop time and keep back an encroaching rabble.
Fanning famously played Aurora, in Maleficent, so expectations were high for the actress at the "Sleeping Beauty"-themed Met Gala, and she exceeded them. Social media users were quick with their praise of the actress. "Elle Fanning is giving Disney Princess dressed by bluebirds," Jarett Wieselman posted on X (formerly Twitter). One user, who posts under the handle @filmgal, wrote, "elle fanning’s dress looks like a literal ice sculpture it’s stunning."
And, fashion historian Dr. Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell noted that, "Elle Fanning's glass-like Balmain is such a clever and stunning take on the exhibition's theme of fragility." This year's exhibit, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is all about famous garments in masterworks in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. Per the Museum, the show "will breathe new life into these storied objects through creative and immersive activations designed to convey the smells, sounds, textures, and motions of garments that can no longer directly interact with the body."
Fanning is currently based in New York City as she films the Bob Dylan biopic with Timothée Chalamet; in recent weeks, the two have been photographed filming around the city.
