Elizabeth Perkins Gives Status Update on Involvement in 'Weeds' Reboot (Exclusive)

Elizabeth Perkins is open to starring in the Weeds reboot—if it ever happens.

In an interview conducted before the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the actress shared her thoughts with Parade on reprising her iconic role as Celia Hodes.

"I believe I would be a part of it," she said, adding, "I think it's still in early developmental stages. I know Mary Louise Parker is part of it."

Perkins, 62, said that she "loved the show and working with Mary Louise." Most importantly, she "loved playing that character of Celia Hodes, [because] she's a train wreck, so that's always fun." She added, "I'm always open, so it would be great."

Deadline broke the news in May of Showtime's plans to bring back the hit series, revealing that it would be written and executive produced by Christian Torpe, who created the Danish TV show Rita, which would follow Nancy's (Mary Louise Parker) new life in Copenhagen, Denmark. It's said to be in the very early stages.

When the news was announced, Perkins' Weeds co-star Justin Kirk told Variety in May that he wasn't convinced that fans actually wanted the show to return.

"Even as a fan, do you really want to see us all old and coming back? By the time of Season 8, I don't think the general idea was, 'We should keep doing this!'" he said. Kirk added, "Look, I love those people, I love that character. I probably know as much as you do about any future reboots."

However, because of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there's a chance that the Weeds reboot may not take off. In an interview with The Guardian this past June, Parker noted that "because of the strike, we don't know [what will happen with the reboot]. And it can fall apart at any time."

Perkins also supported the SAG-AFTRA strike on Instagram, writing, "The careers of working class #sagaftramembers are in jeopardy because the AMPTP refuses to step into the 21st century. The future of the industry is at stake. We are taking action NOW. We are #SAGAFTRAstrong and we are on strike."

While Perkins' return as Celia is yet to be confirmed by Showtime, fans of the actress can catch her on the second season of Minx, which airs Fridays on STARZ at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT.
