Elizabeth Hurley Says She’s ‘Very Comfortable’ Sharing Bikini Pics at 57
Elizabeth Hurley explained why she frequently shares bikini photos on Instagram.
The 57-year-old finds the process empowering, but also admits she would probably share less if she didn’t own a swimwear line.
“If I didn’t have a bikini company, I probably wouldn’t share these pictures. As it happens, but I’m very comfortable doing that,” she said.
If you follow Elizabeth Hurley on Instagram, you know she loves sharing bikini pics. The 57-year-old’s grid is full of her modeling different swimsuit styles, which she says is mostly to promote her swimwear line, Elizabeth Hurley Beach, but she also finds the photoshoots empowering. And she hopes they inspire other women to do what empowers them, too.
“The most important messaging for all women is be aware of what makes you feel comfortable,” she recently told Yahoo! Life. “You know, if there’s a trend going for doing something on TikTok or something on Instagram that everybody seems to be doing, but actually you don’t feel comfortable, just don’t do it. Find your own thing.”
She continued: “Yes, I still wear bikinis on holidays and because I’ve got a bikini company, I’m happy to share those pictures. But expect if I didn’t have a bikini company, I probably wouldn’t share these pictures. As it happens, but I’m very comfortable doing that.”
Still, Hurley’s posts have garnered some criticism, including trolls saying she’s too old to wear a bikini—but she’s learned to stand firm in what she likes, regardless of what other people think.
“There’s plenty of women my age who really love going on vacation, prancing around the beach, wearing whatever they want to wear and not being afraid of other people making sneering comments,” she said. “So I think it’s just about really saying, work out what you’re comfortable with, work out what you believe in. And whilst always being open to new opportunities and to change, stick to your guns when you know something you feel strong about.”
In speaking with Yahoo! Life last year, she said she loves that most of her Instagram followers are women, and that most of them lift each other up. “I think women definitely like that I’m not hiding just because I’m over 50,” she said. “And I just think it’s pretty tough if women think they have to cover up because we’re not in our 20s anymore and perfect.”
And when it comes down to it, Hurley is committed to simply having fun when the camera is turned on. There’s no deeper intentions to her posts. “It’s a little tongue in cheek most of the time because when you’re selling something, which is your own business, everyone knows what I’m doing,” she said. “I’m not saying, ‘Don’t I look fabulous, everyone? This is how I am!’ I’m selling a bikini.”
Either way, she’s living her best, and we can’t help but cheer her on.
