Eli Manning gets in on roast of Tom Brady with tweet about his two Super Bowl wins

In most celebrity roasts, the guest of honor traditionally gets the last word in response to all the jokes at his or her expense throughout the night.

For a while, "The Roast of Tom Brady" followed that script. And then Brady's old nemesis Eli Manning chimed in on social media.

Comedians, former teammates and friends of Brady spent more than two hours Sunday night taking shots at the former NFL quarterback, referencing topics like his failed marriage, money lost in cryptocurrency and his apparent plastic surgery. Brady then responded with some barbs of his own before reminding the audience of his seven Super Bowl rings.

But Manning, whose New York Giants defeated Brady's Patriots in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, was ready with a one-liner Monday morning.

"I thought about attending the Roast of Tom Brady last night, but I did not want to Roast him for a 3rd time!!" Manning wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Manning's jab put a bow on the roast, which aired live on Netflix from the Kia Forum in California Sunday night and is now available on the streaming platform.

Roasters ranged from comedians like Kevin Hart, Jeff Ross and Nikki Glaser to ex-Patriots Drew Bledsoe — whom Brady replaced as the starting quarterback following an injury in 2001 — Randy Moss and Julian Edelman. Even Brady's former head coach, the notoriously surly Bill Belichick, joined the festivities for some jokes at the NFL legend's expense.

Eli Manning's brother Peyton, another former quarterback known for his longtime battles with Brady, was on the show as well. He even alluded to Brady's Super Bowl struggles against the Giants in a joke discussing the pair's shared love of golf.

"We're both pretty good players," Peyton Manning said. "My handicap is a 6.4, while Tom's handicap is blowing leads in the Super Bowl to my brother Eli."

The roast was full of many other more profane and brutal jokes. But in terms of unexpectedness, Eli Manning's next-morning parting shot may have been the most effective.
