The city of Donald in north Marion County is asking residents to pass a 5-year levy to pay for police services for the first time.

The city of just more than 1,000 people has no police force. Donald has an agreement with the Marion County Sheriff's Office for police services that expires in June 2024.

The city said if the levy is passed, it will use the $1.1 million raised to purchase a police vehicle and pay for a deputy from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for 40 hours per week.

If passed, the city would tax residents at a rate of $1.74 per every $1,000 of assessed property value. The average home owner with an assessed property value of $250,000 would pay an additional $435 per year.
