It's Election Day; get to the polls and then check here for updates, results

It's finally Election Day and time to cast your ballots — provided you haven't already used an early-voting ballot.

Who won the election?

That's unknown as voting is still ongoing.

Polls opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday and will remain open until 8 p.m. If you're in line at a polling location by 8 p.m., stay in line; you must be allowed to cast your ballot.

We will be updating this file throughout the day as news rolls in and we'll start delivering vote tallies and results when those numbers become available later this evening. So, be sure to check back often for all you need to know.

What are we voting on today?

All state Legislature seats are on ballots this year, in addition to races for municipal and countywide offices. South Jersey has two legislative districts drawing attention.

The 3rd and 4th districts in South Jersey are listed among seven "battleground" districts based on money flowing in to sway voters, according to an Oct. 31 state Election Law Enforcement Commission report.

The 3rd District switched from solid Democratic control to solid Republican control in the last election. Two Republicans from that winning slate again are on the ballot. One Democrat from the losing slate returns for another try.

In the 4th District race, no incumbents are defending their seats in this cycle, although one Democratic assemblyman looks to move to the Senate. The 4th District has leaned Democrat in past elections. The district race this year also features third-party candidates.

In the 3rd District, ELEC reports that independent groups have spent about $1.5 million. The candidates directly have spent almost $2.09 million.

Statewide, ELEC reports, Democratic candidates have about a 3-to-1 campaign cash advantage over Republicans. Incumbents in total have raised more than twice as much as challengers.
